This intermediate level course provides information on basic grape varieties, climates, and wine making techniques used in the major grape growing regions of the world. Additionally, the course includes service, storage and tasting techniques. This course results in a WSET Level 2 certificate. No experience required. This course is taught by a live instructor online and is delivered over 6 weeks. Once you register, study materials will be sent to you via regular mail. You can begin studying immediately. A class link will be sent to you via email a few days before the class begins. While the classroom is virtual and contains all the content, materials, and instruction a live class would, students are required to purchase their own wine. Since there is no blind tasting associated with the exam, students can taste as many or as little of suggested wines as they desire. The instructor will provide a wine list needed for the class. -
This course is for those who have earned the WSET Level 3 in Wines. The virtual D5 Diploma course focuses on fortified wines around the world. The course includes the Diploma D5 eBook, WSET Online Program to include activities and quizzes led by a WSET tutor, and American Wine School Virtual Classes on Zoom. The D5 exam will take place on June 19, 2022 at 3:30pm in Chicago. -
Unit 3 Still Wines of the World
Unit 3 explores still wines around the globe. Unit 3 is assessed by two separate exams; a tasting exam and a theory, closed-book examination. The exams are held over two days. The Unit 3 exam dates for 2019 are October 29th and 30th. -
Unit 4 Spirits of the World
Unit 4 explores the methods of spirit production as well as the types and styles of spirits around the globe. Unit 4 is assessed by a combined tasting and theory, closed-book examination, consisting of a tasting paper of three sparkling wines and one theory question. -

During the 7-week program, candidates will explore how climate plays a role in creating wine styles, develop tasting skills using the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT), and discover basic winemaking & grape growing choices that influence a wines style, quality, and price. The course begins with an instructor-led, ZOOM launch session on May 29, 2024 at 6pm CST. You will received the Zoom Link the day before your course begins. The Zoom class is recorded. During the remaining weeks, candidates are free to move thru the program at their own pace with the aid of an online tutor. The course contains the same content and materials of our in-person course but is designed to be flexible and can be accessed at any time. It includes tasting note submission/feedback, pre-recorded lectures, videos, supplemental study aids, and access to ask questions via a student/tutor discussion board. While there is no wine tasting on the exam, students are encouraged to sample a wide array of wines to enrich their studies. A list of suggested wines will be provided and candidates are responsible for purchasing their wines locally. The course exam is offer both online and in-person in Chicago. Candidates must state which mode of exam they would like to sit at the time of purchase. Once an exam preference has been registered, it cannot be changed.
