The American Wine School offers one-on-one tasting feedback online. The American Wine School also offers Virtual lectures on Zoom for select wine regions. This entry level course provides basic information on basic grape varieties, introduction to wine tasting, food and wine pairing as well as basic service knowledge. Perfect for people new to the world of wine, this course results in a WSET Level 1 certificate and is a great starting point for most novice consumers. No experience required. This course is taught by a live instructor online during a weekly class. The class is delivered over three weeks and each session is 2 hours long. Once you register, study materials will be sent to you via regular mail. A class link will be sent to you via email a few days before the class begins. While this course contains all the same content, materials, and delivery of a face-to-face course, students will be responsible for securing the wines and a price reduction has been given to reflect the wine purchase. That said, there is no blind tasting on this exam so the number of wines is limited (3 reds, 2 whites, and 1 sweet wine) and we can, most likely, use what you have on hand. Alternatively, if you would like class purchase wines for the class, we have hand-selected an AWS 6-pack for Level 1 through WineJug, an online retail, to enhance your studies. Additionally, the course includes service, storage and tasting techniques. This course results in a WSET Level 2 certificate. No experience required. This course is taught by a live instructor online and is delivered over 6 weeks. Once you register, study materials will be sent to you via regular mail. You can begin studying immediately. While the classroom is virtual and contains all the content, materials, and instruction a live class would, students are required to purchase their own wine. Unit 3 explores still wines around the globe. Unit 3 is assessed by two separate exams; a tasting exam and a theory, closed-book examination. The exams are held over two days. The Unit 3 exam dates for 2019 are October 29th and 30th. -

Unit 4 explores the methods of spirit production as well as the types and styles of spirits around the globe. Unit 4 is assessed by a combined tasting and theory, closed-book examination, consisting of a tasting paper of three sparkling wines and one theory question. -

This is an online course covering classic grape varieties from major regions around the world. During the 7-week program, candidates will explore how climate plays a role in creating wine styles, develop tasting skills using the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT), and discover basic winemaking & grape growing choices that influence a wines style, quality, and price. The course begins with an instructor-led, ZOOM launch session on March 27, 2024 at 6pm CST. You will received the Zoom Link the day before your course begins. The Zoom class is recorded. During the remaining weeks, candidates are free to move thru the program at their own pace with the aid of an online tutor. The course contains the same content and materials of our in-person course but is designed to be flexible and can be accessed at any time. It includes tasting note submission/feedback, pre-recorded lectures, videos, supplemental study aids, and access to ask questions via a student/tutor discussion board. While there is no wine tasting on the exam, students are encouraged to sample a wide array of wines to enrich their studies. A list of suggested wines will be provided and candidates are responsible for purchasing their wines locally. The course exam is offer both online and in-person in Chicago. Candidates must state which mode of exam they would like to sit at the time of purchase. Once an exam preference has been registered, it cannot be changed.
