• This is an online course covering classic grape varieties from major regions around the world. During the 7-week program, candidates will explore how climate plays a role in creating wine styles, develop tasting skills using the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT), and discover basic winemaking & grape growing choices that influence a wines style, quality, and price. The course begins with an instructor-led, ZOOM launch session on July 30, 2024 at 6pm CST. You will received the Zoom Link the day before your course begins. The Zoom class is recorded. During the remaining weeks, candidates are free to move thru the program at their own pace with the aid of an online tutor. The course contains the same content and materials of our in-person course but is designed to be flexible and can be accessed at any time. It includes tasting note submission/feedback, pre-recorded lectures, videos, supplemental study aids, and access to ask questions via a student/tutor discussion board. While there is no wine tasting on the exam, students are encouraged to sample a wide array of wines to enrich their studies. A list of suggested wines will be provided and candidates are responsible for purchasing their wines locally. The course exam is offer both online and in-person in Chicago. Candidates must state which mode of exam they would like to sit at the time of purchase. Once an exam preference has been registered, it cannot be changed.
  • This course is a hybrid course with 3 classes taking place on Zoom and 3 classes taking place in person on one (1) day in Detroit.  The exam will take place in Detroit or may be taken online. Students will receive their study materials as soon as they register for the course. Once the materials have arrived, please start reading the book and taking notes, making flash cards etc. You  need to come to class prepared having read the book.

  • Before purchasing this course, please register for the Diploma Program by purchasing the registration separately. This course is for those who have earned the WSET Level 3 in Wines. D1 Wine Production is the first course Diploma candidates must take before moving on to other units.  It delves into the science of wine to include viticulture & vinification practices as well as maturation, treatments, and packaging around the globe. It is assessed by means of a 90 min open-response exam that  is offered several times a year. The course fee includes online Flex-study Portal, Virtual Zoom Lectures, and exam fee. The Flex-study Portal is an independent study program with quizzes, activities, and a mock exam to help you move through the content. Guided by an online facilitator, the Flex-study Portal also has recorded lectures. The American Wine School Virtual sessions are instructor-led lectures on ZOOM with specific dates and times. All sessions are recorded.

Perfect for people new to the world of wine, this course results in a WSET Level 1 Wine Award certificate and is a great starting point for novice consumers. No experience required. This course is an online course that begins with an instructor-led launch session on ZOOM. This 2-hour session is recorded and can be viewed anytime for those who cannot attend. A class link will be sent to you via email a few days before the class begins. This course contains the same content and materials of our in-person course, however, students are responsible for securing wines locally. A list of suggested wines will be provided during the launch session.    
  • This course is recommended for those who have earned the Intermediate Certificate, or have a good foundation of wine knowledge. The class is conducted with one virtual ZOOM launch class followed by an online course with video lectures, mock exams, practice quizzes, readings, and one-on-one tasting note feedback. The online course is facilitated by an online tutor. We highly suggest candidates order their study materials well in advance of the class to study at home. Flash cards, note taking, and reading the book is a must before class. The course includes:
