D1 Wine Production is the first course Diploma candidates must take before moving on to other units.  It delves into the science of wine to include viticulture & vinification practices as well as maturation, treatments, and packaging around the globe. It is assessed by means of a 90 min open-response exam that  is offered several times a year. The course fee includes online Flex-study Portal, Virtual Zoom Lectures, and exam fee. The Flex-study Portal is an independent study program with quizzes, activities, and a mock exam to help you move through the content. Guided by an online facilitator, the Flex-study Portal also has recorded lectures. The American Wine School Virtual sessions are instructor-led lectures on ZOOM with specific dates and times. All sessions are recorded.

The course includes the Diploma D5 eBook, WSET Online Program to include activities and quizzes led by a WSET tutor, and American Wine School Virtual Classes on Zoom.

    This course and exam will take place in in-person in Chicago at Binny's Beverage Depot in Lincoln Park. Students will receive their study materials as soon as they register for the course. Once the materials have arrived, please start reading the book and taking notes, making flash cards etc. You  need to come to class prepared having read the book.
  • This course is a hybrid course with 3 classes taking place on Zoom and 3 classes taking place in person on one (1) day in Detroit.  The exam will take place in Detroit or may be taken online. Students will receive their study materials as soon as they register for the course.
