  • This course is recommended for those who have earned the Intermediate Certificate, or have a good foundation of wine knowledge. The class begins with virtual classes online. An exam prep course (2hours live in Chicago) is also included the day before your scheduled exam. We highly suggest candidates order their study materials well in advance of the class to study at home. Flash cards, note taking, and reading the book is a must before class. The sessions include Virtual lectures, and In-person tastings, and exam prep. Successful candidates receive the Level 3 Certificate of the WSET.

    The course covers the main categories of spirits and liqueurs as well as the influences of production methods on the different styles available in each category. Students will be introduced to our Systematic Approach to Tasting Spirits while also exploring the use of spirits in cocktails.     Saturday, November 8

    • 9am-12pm – WSET Level 1 Classroom Instruction

  • This entry level course provides basic information on basic grape varieties, introduction to wine tasting, food and wine pairing as well as basic service knowledge. Perfect for people new to the world of wine, this course results in a WSET Level 1 certificate and is a great starting point for most novice consumers. No experience required. In addition to the WSET level 1 lectures and tasting, the Level 1 course at Gervasi Vineyard also includes two property tours led by head winemaker, David Smith as well as a glass of celebratory bubbles after the exam.  
  • This course is for those who have earned the WSET Level 3 in Wines. The virtual D6 Diploma course is an independent research paper on a wine-related topic. Each year on Aug 1st, WSET announces two new topics for the coming academic year. Candidates may selected a topic that interests them and complete a 3,000 word research paper independently. The topic of this paper is PIWIs. Candidates must register by purchasing this product by July 14, 2024. The submission date for a hard copy of the paper is July 31, 2025. A hard copy of the paper must arrive before end of business (5pm CST) on July 31, 2024. General Tips:
    • Follow all the regulations outlined in the paper guidance.
    • Don't change the name of the paper.
    • Your paper must have a diverse bibliography.
    • Your paper must be cited. Check out Purdue Owl for citation examples. (owl.purdue.edu)
    • Follow the brief. Your  paper should answer the questions in the brief. Stay on topic.
    • Let someone else read the brief and the paper to be sure you have answered the questions on the brief.
    • Your paper must have a WSET issued cover sheet. (see below)

  • This course is for those who have earned the WSET Level 3 in Wines. The virtual D5 Diploma course focuses on fortified wines around the world. The course includes the Diploma D5 eBook, WSET Online Program to include activities and quizzes led by a WSET tutor, and American Wine School Virtual Classes on Zoom.
  • This course is for those who have completed the D1 unit of Diploma. It is the second course and exam toward the WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wines award. The Business of wine covers the costs involved in producing wine including winery, distribution, and transportation costs as well as marketing expenses. It is assessed by means of a 60 min open-response exam that is offered 4 times a year: Jan, March, June, and October. The course includes both American Wine School Flex-Study Portal and American Wine School led virtual classes on Zoom. The Flex-Study Portal is an independent study program with quizzes and activities to help you move through the content. Guided by an online tutor, the Flex-Study Portal does not have lectures. The American Wine School Virtual sessions are instructor-led lectures with specific dates and times. All sessions are recorded.
  • Before purchasing this course, please register for the Diploma Program by purchasing the registration separately. This course is for those who have earned the WSET Level 3 in Wines. D1 Wine Production is the first course Diploma candidates must take before moving on to other units.  It delves into the science of wine to include viticulture & vinification practices as well as maturation, treatments, and packaging around the globe. It is assessed by means of a 90 min open-response exam that  is offered several times a year. The course fee includes online Flex-study Portal, Virtual Zoom Lectures, and exam fee. The Flex-study Portal is an independent study program with quizzes, activities, and a mock exam to help you move through the content. Guided by an online facilitator, the Flex-study Portal also has recorded lectures. The American Wine School Virtual sessions are instructor-led lectures on ZOOM with specific dates and times. All sessions are recorded.
  • This course is for those who have earned the WSET Level 3 in Wines. It is the largest course of the WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wines award. The WSET Global Classroom D3 Diploma course focuses on the wines of the world. The course includes the Diploma D3 eBook and online activities and quizzes led by WSET. The American Wine School offers one-on-one tasting feedback online. The American Wine School also offers Virtual lectures on Zoom for select wine regions. The D3 exam is offered May and Oct of each year. The exam is given over two days in Chicago.
