  • This course is for those who have earned the WSET Level 3 in Wines. The virtual D6 Diploma course is an independent research paper on a wine-related topic. Each year on Aug 1st, WSET announces two new topics for the coming academic year. Candidates may selected a topic that interests them and complete a 3,000 word research paper independently. The topic of this paper is South African Wine Industry. Candidates must register by purchasing this product by January 7, 2022. The submission date for a hard copy of the paper is January 31, 2022.

    This course is taught online via the WSET Global Classroom. There are no scheduled lectures. Instead, this flexible study program offers quizzes and activities online with a tutor. The in-person exam takes place in Chicago or you may opt to take your exam online from the comfort of your own home. A log-in code will be sent to you by WSET the week that the class opens. Exam location will be Sofitel, 20 E. Chestnut Street, Chicago. Your study material will be sent to you via mail as soon as you purchase the class.

D1 Wine Production is the first course all Diploma candidates must take before moving on to other units.  It delves into the science of wine to include viticulture & vinification practices as well as maturation, treatments, and packaging around the globe. It is assessed by means of a 90 min open-response exam that  is offered several times a year. The course fee includes both WSET Global Classroom and American Wine School Virtual Lectures on ZOOM. The WSET Global Classroom is an independent study program with quizzes and activities to help you move through the content. Guided by an online tutor, the Global Classroom does not have lectures. The American Wine School Virtual sessions are instructor-led lectures with specific dates and times. All sessions are recorded. Additionally, the course fee includes a 3 year materials and registration fee.

    The course covers the main categories of spirits and liqueurs as well as the influences of production methods on the different styles available in each category. Students will be introduced to our Systematic Approach to Tasting Spirits while also exploring the use of spirits in cocktails. The product knowledge gained on this course will give a significant advantage to those working with spirits in both on- and off-trade alcohol.

The D5 exam will take place on June 19, 2022 at 3:30pm in Chicago.

The WSET Global Classroom D3 Diploma course focuses on the wines of the world. The course includes the Diploma D3 eBook and online activities and quizzes led by WSET. The American Wine School offers one-on-one tasting feedback online. The American Wine School also offers Virtual lectures on Zoom for select wine regions. The D3 exam is offered May and Oct of each year. The exam is given over two days in Chicago.

It also includes support from American Wine School in the form of Virtual Classes: Oct 4,11,18, 2021. These Virtual Classes will be recorded for those who cannot make the Virtual Class. The D2 exam takes place on Jan 19, 2022 at 11:30am CST in Chicago. It is a 60-minute written exam.

The Business of wine covers the costs involved in producing wine including winery, distribution, and transportation costs as well as marketing expenses. It is assessed by means of a 60 min open-response exam that is offered 4 times a year: Jan, March, June, and October. The course includes both WSET Global Classroom and American Wine School led virtual classes on Zoom. The WSET Global Classroom is an independent study program with quizzes and activities to help you move through the content. Guided by an online tutor, the Global Classroom does not have lectures. The American Wine School Virtual sessions are instructor-led lectures with specific dates and times. All sessions are recorded. In some course the Global Classroom and AWS Virtual sessions will take place concurrently; other times the two programs may be offered consecutively.

You’ll explore the main styles and types of sake through sight, smell and taste to develop an understanding of the key factors affecting flavors and aromas. Upon successful completion, you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin. There are no entry requirements for this qualification. You must be of legal drinking age in the country where you are attending the course to participate in any alcohol tasting. However, this is not a barrier to successfully completing the qualification.
