Designed for beginners, this course will provide an introduction to sake. Each module includs a series of independent activities to help students understand sake production.  You’ll explore the main styles and types of Sake as well as develop an understanding of the key factors affecting flavors and aromas. The final exam consists of 30 multiple-choice questions. The exam may be sat in person in Chicago or online. Successful completion of the exams ears students WSET level 1 Award in Sake certificate. WSET Global Classroom

WSET Global Classroom is an online, tutor-guided course with weekly activities. There are no instructor-led lectures associated with this course. An online tutor guides the WSET online classroom. Weekly topics can be viewed by logging into the online classroom anytime during the week. There are set start and finish dates for each week, but no set class times. The course is offered in 6 modules with educator support. The course modules should be followed in order, but students are free to complete the modules at their own pace during the 4 week window. The students can contact the educator any time for the duration of the series if they have a question. The course material should take about 6 hours to complete.

Once the course is over students arrange with American Wine School, an Approved Program Provider, to take the exam in person at an American Wine School location or online from the comfort of your own home. While there is no blind tasting on the exam, sampling sake is a fun part of the learning experience. Students should taste a range of sake during their studies. Suggested sake can be found in the course Specification. The Level 1 Online Learning course fee includes study guide, online course, exam fee, and digital certificate upon passing the exam. All sake tasted during the course are purchased by candidates.
