WSET® Level 1 Wine

Level 1 photoThis entry level course provides basic information on basic grape varieties, introduction to wine tasting, food and wine pairing as well as basic service knowledge. Perfect for people new to the world of wine, this course results in a WSET Level 1 certificate and is a great starting point for most novice consumers.

Learning Outcomes

Holders of the WSET® level 1 Foundation Certificate in Wine and Spirits will be able to describe main styles of wines, display a basic understanding of factors that determine style, describe the main characteristics of principal grape varieties, state the correct service temperatures, equipment and glassware for wine service as well as basic food and wine pairing concepts. The final exam consists of 30 multiple-choice questions. Successful completion of the exam earns students the Level 1 Wine Certificate of the WSET®.

Level 1 Certificate Exam

The final exam consists of 30 multiple-choice questions. Successful completion of the exam earns students the Level 1 Certificate of the WSET®.

WSET® Level 1 Spirits

Level-1-Spirits-photoThe WSET® Level 1 in spirits is intended to provide a working knowledge of spirits and liqueurs. No previous experience in spirits is required.  This one-day course is appropriate for students who have a professional interest in spirits, as well as for those not employed in the drinks industry but who have a serious interest in spirits, and wish to broaden their knowledge in a structured way.

Learning Outcomes

The WSET® Level 1 Spirits covers the history, production and styles of principal spirits and liqueurs of the world. Each session will include a tasting. The course program covers, brandy, whiskies, gin and other flavored spirits, rum, tequila, vodka and Liqueurs. Successful completion of the exam earns students the Level 1 Spirits Certificate of the WSET®.

WSET® Level 2 in Wine & Spirits

Level-2-photoThis course provides basic information on the wine regions of the world. From labeling laws to climate, soil and grape varieties, the WSET® Level 2 Certificate is designed to broaden your product knowledge.  Crafted with the professional in mind, it’s also perfect for non-professional wine enthusiasts who wish to acquire in-depth knowledge while obtaining a The WSET® Certificate.  Taking the WSET® Level 1 is not a requirement for this course.

Learning Outcomes

Holders of the WSET® Level 2 Certificate in Wine and Spirits will be able to interpret the labels of the major alcoholic beverages of the world, give basic guidance on appropriate selection and service, as well as knowing the principles of wine tasting and evaluation. The final exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. Successful completion of the exam earns students the Level 2 Certificate of the WSET®.

Specification book which lists what you need to know for the exam, learning outcomes for each segment of the course, sample exam questions and answers, and categories of wines to be tasted during the course.

Fees

$575 for classes and tastings, all course material & wines, text and exam fee. At home study $350 includes course materials, tutored tasting session via phone or Skype, and exam.

Please note, in some cities Level 2 is offered as a 7 week course – in other cities it may be offered as an immersion course requiring pre-course study time of 4 weeks.

WSET® Level 3 Certificate in Wine & Spirits

Level-3-photoThis course is recommended for those who have earned the Intermediate Certificate, or have a good foundation of wine knowledge. In depth lectures and discussions covering wines and spirits of the world are designed to give a thorough understanding of the principal wines and spirits of the world and their commercial importance. Successful candidates receive the Level 3 Certificate of the WSET.

Learning Outcomes

After completing the Level 3 Certificate program, certificate holders will be able to describe the characteristics of the principal wines and spirits of the world and give information on the key factors influencing style, quality and value. Further, they will be able to advise management, answer customer questions and make informed selections of wine and spirits in a variety of situations. The exam is comprised of multiple-choice questions, short answer questions, and a blind tasting of two wines.

The app features additional information on all the regions and grape varieties you have been faced with placing in the game, so as well as testing your knowledge, you can extend it!
