This course covers the major steps required to produce spirits. From identifying raw materials to production methods to key characteristics, students will learn the different techniques used in creating various spirits including Brandy, Vodka, Rum, Tequila, and Whiskey. An introduction to tasting spirits using language from the WSET SAT is a key element of the course. Additionally, students will learn to describe different techniques used to add flavor to spirits, best practices for service and storage of spirits as well as how to create balanced cocktails. The course is assessed via a 45 minute, multiple choice exam that can be taken in-person or online.  WSET Global Classroom 

WSET Global Classroom is an online, tutor-guided course with weekly activities. There are no instructor-led lectures associated with this course. An online tutor guides the WSET online classroom. Weekly topics can be viewed by logging into the online classroom anytime during the week. There are set start and finish dates for each week, but no set class times. The course is offered in 5 modules with educator support. The course modules should be followed in order, but students are free to complete the modules at their own pace during the 4 week window. The students can contact the educator any time for the duration of the series if they have a question. The course material should take about 6 hours to complete. Once the course is over students arrange with American Wine School, an Approved Program Provider, to take the exam in person at an American Wine School location or online from the comfort of your own home. While there is no blind tasting on the exam, sampling spirits is a fun part of the learning experience. Students should taste a range of spirits during their studies. Suggested spirits can be found in the course Specification. The Level 1 Online Learning course fee of $300 includes study guide, online course, and exam fee. All spirits tasted during the course are purchased by candidates.
